SAMURAI 侍

SAMURAI means warrior. A well-balanced and mellow green tea with little astringency and a faint sweetness. Grown in Makinohara, famous for its Samurai origins as warriors laid the foundations for the region’s high-quality tea today.

This sencha is produced using a rare cultivar called Saemidori cultivar which delivers a gentle taste perfect after eating. Our farmer (MaruMaru-san) follows many of the same traditions as the Samurai founders with the same passion and resilience.

ORIGIN

Makinohara in Shizuoka pref.; Japan

PREPARATION

6g. of tea leaves for 180cl. of hot water

1st Steep: 90sec at 70°C

2nd Steep: 30sec at 80°C

3rd Steep: 30sec at over 90°C

Put 6g of tea leaves inside Japanese Teapot (Kyusu). Pour hot water at the recommended temperature and time.

We recommend to steep three times, you may notice the change in colours and taste at each steep.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

We called this tea SAMURAI due to its historical background.

Entering the Meiji era from Edo, many samurais abandoned their warrior life to become farmers; Kyouaki Nakajo was one of them, he started tea cultivation in the Makinohara Plateau.

Kyouaki Nakajo was a member of the Shinsengumi group, he dedicated all his energy into cultivating tea and eventually built the foundations of what later became the renown "Shizuoka Makinohara Tea", famous for its rich aroma.
