Where Our Tea Comes From

Where Our Tea Comes From

From Farm to Cup.

At Cup of Japan, we work exclusively with Sencha - Japan’s most beloved green tea - sourcing from two of its most expressive regions:

Shizuoka

Japan’s largest tea-producing region, Shizuoka is celebrated for its vibrant green color, clean taste, and breathtaking fields beneath Mt. Fuji. Each cup captures the harmony of climate, tradition, and generations of careful cultivation.

Sayama

A smaller region north of Tokyo, Sayama is prized for its rich, full-bodied flavor, cultivated in cooler climates with precision and care. The teas here carry a depth and warmth that reflect both the soil and the skill of the growers.

Each location offers a distinct character, shaped by climate, tradition, and the expertise of local farmers.

The Farmers Behind Every Cup

We partner directly with small growers, many of whom harvest and process their own teas by hand.

  • In Shizuoka, multigenerational families farm hillside fields wrapped in coastal mist, using time-honored techniques refined through cooperatives that have existed for more than a century.

  • In Sayama, independent producers hand-pick early spring leaves and fire them slowly to unlock their full depth and warmth.

We meet with our farmers face-to-face. We taste together, we share knowledge, and we build trust. To us, they are not just suppliers — they are collaborators and stewards of tradition.
